Time Strategies

Image
Motivation, Time Management, Inspiration by Chris Florence. Taken July 2012 Source: Flickr . Time management is something that I struggled with during my Freshman year here at OU. Throughout my three years, I have developed a few strategies for managing my time that have really worked for me. I make checklists, have a planner, and use reminders on my phone to make sure that I keep deadlines on my mind and do not forget. The first article I read was  The Psychology of Checklists  by Lauren Marchese. I really liked this article and it confirmed that one of the time management strategies I have been using works. The second article was  3 Steps to Recapture Time   by Joynicole Martinez. This blog gave me a few things to try. I think that if I spent the first 15 minutes of my day planning I would be more productive. The third article I read was  Realistic Study Plans  by Amanda Collins. This article gave me a few resources I plan to use. The weekly templa...

Technology Overview

Technology by Global Panorama. Image Courtesy: Nick Harris. Source: Flickr .   Technology is constantly changing and evolving. Having knowledge or learning about new technologies is always beneficial. I have experience blogging, bookmarking, and image editing. I do not have experience with website publishing, graphics creation, or Twine. I am excited to learn about website publishing the most. I am also looking forward to creating my storybook website. This class is unlike most of my other classes though I do have some experience from blogging in other classes. I like that the setup of this class allows us to be creative. I also enjoy writing so I'm sure I'll continue to have fun writing my blogs.

Overview of Class Assignments

School taken by GotCredit. Source: Flickr . Credit  https://www.gotcredit.com .  This class is very unique since most of our assignments are making or commenting on blogs. So far I am really enjoying it. I like that I can make these blogs have some aesthetic appeal and be creative. However, it was very confusing to me at the beginning of the week. I am slowly starting to get the hang of it. The assignment that I am looking forward to the most is the Storybook assignment. All the storybooks I looked at were very interesting and fun to look at. I am hoping they will be fun to make as well. Reading all the stories is something that I am also looking forward to. This is unlike any class I have taken. Although I did have to do some blog posts for my Architecture for non-majors class. A few of the extra credit assignments did jump out to me. The H.E.A.R.T resources extra credit jumped out to me. I think that all the things H.E.A.R.T stands for are very important and worth t...

My Thoughts on Growth Mindset

Image
Growth. Taken by Mike Lawrence. Source: Flickr Growth Mindset is not something that I had heard about before. Learning of Carol Dweck's work was a first for me and I had very conflicting thoughts hearing her take on growth mindset. I think that we should not expect everything to come easily for us. However, there will always be someone who has a natural ability or better ability for the task at hand. I do not know if we should make it celebrated when kids get something easily, but it is bound to happen. I also think that a person’s abilities should be celebrated. If one person gets math really well they shouldn’t feel cheated when it isn’t hard for them. They may be more challenged in other areas like reading or English so this ability to understand math evens it out for them. I do like the aspect of challenge in Carol’s growth mindset. I think that if more people enjoyed the challenge of learning the education system would be growing at a much faster rate. I definitely have...

Introduction

(Image Information: Personal Image Whitefield Family; Taken by Hannah Whitefield; Photo from May 2019)  Hi everyone! My name is Hannah Whitefield and I am from Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. It's a really cool small town about 45 minutes south of here. There are some pretty cool things in Pauls Valley considering it's a small southern town. We have an action figure museum, water park, movie theater, and what I consider the best Mexican restaurant in Oklahoma. I enjoyed growing up in a small town, but I love living in Norman. There are so many more activities to do along with a faster pace which I have found suits my personality better. I work at Ted's Cafe Escondido part-time. I like working as a waitress, though sometimes being in customer service is trying. My co-workers are all very fun to be around which makes my job much better. I am a senior Psychology major which I absolutely love and think that everyone should study at some point. It's just so interesting! I lov...

Hannah's Storybook Favorites

Image
All of the Storybooks I looked at were so thoughtfully and artistically put together! However, these three specifically captured my attention... Firstly, Ganesha's Story. This storybook captured my attention because I was already familiar with the story of Ganesha but was curious to learn more. The title did an excellent job of letting me know what this storybook was about. In fact, it was the title that pulled me in and made me want to take a closer look. The introduction was well written. It mentions the different creation stories of Ganesha and eludes to the fact that Ganesha's life was not all peaches and cream making me want to learn more. Overall, I love the design of the page. However, I think that some of the pictures are a little too large and I will keep that in mind when creating my own storybook. Click here for the link to the storybook. Graphic of Ganesha. My Favorite Place

Image
(Image Information: Personal Image Dock at Cozumel; Taken by Hannah Whitefield; Photo from July 2019)  My favorite place is Cozumel, Mexico. This past summer I vacationed there and it was one of the most beautiful places I have seen. While the temperatures were crazy hot, the water was cool, clear, and deep blue. My boyfriends family and I went on a snorkeling excursion where we got to see several different types of fish, coral, and shells. I was amazed by how nice the beaches are there. The sand is bright white and there seem to be neverending rows of palm trees. The different types of fish and dolphins we got to see were all incredible and beautiful. We went on a boat ride down the coastline where I got to see more of the amazing beaches.  I definitely enjoyed my time in Cozumel and hope to return very soon!
