Introduction

Hi everyone! My name is Hannah Whitefield and I am from Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. It's a really cool small town about 45 minutes south of here. There are some pretty cool things in Pauls Valley considering it's a small southern town. We have an action figure museum, water park, movie theater, and what I consider the best Mexican restaurant in Oklahoma. I enjoyed growing up in a small town, but I love living in Norman. There are so many more activities to do along with a faster pace which I have found suits my personality better.
I work at Ted's Cafe Escondido part-time. I like working as a waitress, though sometimes being in customer service is trying. My co-workers are all very fun to be around which makes my job much better. I am a senior Psychology major which I absolutely love and think that everyone should study at some point. It's just so interesting! I love learning about the mind, personalities, and cognition specifically. I am also Pre-law and will hopefully be attending law school next summer.
In my free time, I like to go swimming, reading, scrapbooking, spending time with friends and family, and trying any type of new food. Reading is one of my favorite pastimes. My favorite books are the Eragon series. I feel like most people could never guess that but the books in the series are so well written and fun to read. I love to eat sushi along with any type of Mexican food. My boyfriend, Matthew, and I like to try new things. We enjoy trying new restaurants in the OKC/Norman area. Blue is my favorite color. My best friend is my little sister Chloe. She is three years younger than me, but everyone asks us if we are twins because we look very similar. I really enjoy being a student at OU and I'm hoping that my last semester will be the best one yet!

  1. What a lovely family photo, Hannah! And I really like this combination of waitress/customer-service with your psychology major. I know I read a lot of psychology books and articles because they help me with teaching... just as I can imagine psychology gives you some insight into the customer service side of waitressing! Maybe you could even do a waitressing-inspired story for class, imagining what it would be like to be waitress to the gods and goddesses at some heavenly diner in heavenly Amaravati or in some dining establishment frequented by epic characters (everybody's got to eat, right?). And if you are into Eragon, you will definitely want to check out the lore of the Nagas in the Indian tradition; not exactly dragons, but supernatural serpentine... a famous Naga is the great cosmic Naga called Shesha, and one of the Mahabharata heroes gets married to a Naga princess named Ulupi: Uloopi: The Naga Princess who Fell in Love with Arjuna ... there is no shortage of stories in the Indian storytelling tradition, and I hope you will have fun with all of that!

  2. Hey Hannah! I also come from a small town but have really enjoyed Norman. While I am not a psychology major (I'm a civil engineering major), I think psychology is very interesting. Even in civil engineering psychology plays a huge role in the workplace. We need to know how people think and how to get them to work better on a team, and the more you know about how people work, the easier it is to do this. Good luck with the law school application process!

  3. Hi, Hannah! I was so excited to get to be assigned to comment on your blog too! I had no idea Paul’s Valley had so many neat places to visit! I’ll have to check out the action figure museum and the Mexican food restaurant. Those sound amazing! I didn’t realize that this was your last semester at OU. I’ll really miss seeing you around! I know you will be amazing in law school though! You have the drive and level-headedness that will make you a very good attorney! What area of law are you hoping to go into? Do you want to do a branch of law that involves psychology? Whatever you choose, I am sure you will do it well! Best of luck to you in all of the new and exciting things that are yet to come!

  4. Hi Hannah! I am from Oklahoma City but tend to pass by Pauls Valley every time I make a trip to Dallas, Texas but that happens to be quite often. I always wondered what there is to do in Pauls Valley, so thank you for informing me! I'm a waitress as well and it sucks dealing with complicated customers. Sometimes, I just want to quite but it's fast, easy money. I hope you have a great semester!

  5. Hi Hannah! I've only been to Pauls Valley once, but I liked it. While there I got to visit the action figure museum and talk to the man who started it. I'm not much for action figures but I am a nerd so picking his brain was a lot of fun. The best Mexican restaurant in Oklahoma is a bold claim. What is the name of said restaurant? I may have to take a trip down to Pauls Valley to check it out. And good luck with law school!

  6. I'm from the Dallas area, so I have to drive by Pauls Valley to get to school and I always think it's a pretty cool place when I pass it. I definitely understand what you mean about customer service, having worked at a snow cone place for a few years and IKEA customer service for a bit, so I know how important good co-workers can be.

  7. Hey Hannah! Psychology is such a cool major, I hope you’re enjoying it! The mind is so complex and interesting, I can easily see why you love it! I’ve never been to Paul’s Valley, but I’m also from a smaller town and sort of miss it sometimes. Norman is nice, but it’s lacking the small-town charm. Good luck with the rest of your semester!

  8. Hello Hannah! It was nice to learn a bit about you. I went to Pauls Valley many times when I played sports for Tuttle. What do you consider to be the best Mexican food in the state, I will need to go check it out? What made you want to become a lawyer? I hope you are blessed in all your endeavors! I know you have a long road ahead with law school but good luck!

  9. Hi Hannah! First of all, I LOVE Ted’s. I'm getting a psychology minor and I agree that it is so interesting and something everyone should learn a little about. There is a really interesting show on Netflix called The Mind Explained and it talks a lot about neuroscience, and also Mind Games has a lot of really interesting concepts from psychology. Also, I am pre-law as well! Trying new restaurants/foods is something I love to do too. There are so many neat restaurants in Norman and especially in OKC!

  10. Hi Hannah!
I used to love the Eragon books, but it's been so long since I've read them that I don't really remember anything about them. Psychology isn't something that I've really studied at all, but it seems like a very interesting subject. I've never been to Pauls Valley, but it sounds like a pretty cool place. I hope that everything goes well this year and that you're able to go to law school like you're planning to.

  11. Hi Hannah! Your major sounds super interesting. I study English, and I often wish that I understood more about psychology so that I could apply psychology to my analyses of characters in fiction, and to write characters with complex psychologies in my own fiction. Also, I have never read the Eragon series (despite having a copy of Eragon on my bookshelf for the last ten years). I definitely intend to read it eventually, though!

  12. Hello Hannah! How exciting that you are planning on going to law school. I keep going back and forth if I can handle graduate school after my bachelors. I am also working as a waitress so I feel your pain. Sometimes its hard to be in the mood to smile and be nice to people even when they are rude! haha. I have lived in Oklahoma for almost two years now and have yet to have the best mexican food so I'll just take your word for it. I'm sure this class is in your realm of interest since you love to read! I've never done creative writing so often so I am definitely learning a lot this semester.

  13. Hi Hannah! I enjoyed getting to know you through your introduction! I am also a psychology major and think it is super interesting to study. I really enjoy getting to learn how our minds work as well as why we act the way we do. I also relate to you being from a small town because I am from one as well. Norman suits me much better too.

  14. Hey Hannah!
I think it’s interesting that you grew up in a small town and now love living in Norman. My husband and I currently live in South OKC/North Norman and we are building a house in Cashion. We can’t wait to move to a super small town and get out of the city!

We also love sushi. The best place we have found that’s close by is Volcano Sushi in Moore off I-35/19th St. I’d love to know your favorite places to eat sushi. We are always looking for more places to eat at. Funny enough, the best sushi we ever had was in Vancouver, Canada.

Good luck with the rest of the semester and hope that you enjoy your pre-law classes next summer!

  15. Hello Hannah,
An action figure museum seems interesting and like it would be a great. Now I will have to challenge you on the best Mexican food in Oklahoma because in my little town Taco La Tia is simply one of the best. I'm from Muskogee if you ever want to try it. Yea I know what you mean by working in customer service I went from retail to working in a pharmacy and let me tell you customers are a trip. Psych and Pre-Law!! That's amazing I hope all your work pays off. I tried to read that series when I was younger.

  16. Hi Hannah!

I have flown over Pauls Valley a couple times, but have never been there. I to really like to explore new places to eat in the Norman and OKC area, my next stop is to make it to the new food courts that have opened up in the OKC area. I find psychology to be interesting and my roommate is a psychology major also and we talk about it all the time, she is also going to be doing pre-law also.

  17. Hi Hannah, so, I need to know this restaurant's name! I love mexican food and would love to try it if I'm ever in the area! Apparently, I should be in the area as the town has a lot of neat attractions! Also, I have a kinda weird question about your job. My friend's and I visit Ted's pretty often, and one time we had a server named Mike. We never saw him again, and I was wondering if you knew what happened to him, or if he just works different days now.

  18. Hi Hannah!
I had a roommate years ago fro Sulphur. It is really pretty out that way. Ted's is delicious and i'm glad you enjoy your coworkers. I LOVED my psychology classes. It is definitely interesting to learn about. I am a HUGE book nerd, but it has been years since I have read Eragon. I should definitely go back and reread. My kid may be at the age to appreciate it. Hope you are having a good semester!

  19. Hey Hannah,

It is really cool to read a small aspect of your life through this blog introduction. I commend you on your perseverance on going straight to graduate school after you graduate this upcoming spring semester. I plan on pursuing a MBA within the next three years, but I don't think I would able to go straight into graduate school after college. I work as a server part-time and I concur that customer service is tiring. I look forward to reading your finalized stories from your project.
