Feedback Thoughts

Image Credit. Feedback? by Josefine H. Akerblom. Taken January 2015. Source: Flickr .   The first article I read was  Seven Ways to Crush Self-Doubt in Creative Work  by John Spencer. I LOVED this article. I think that John Spencer's advice applies to creative work, a workplace, and self-doubt in everyday life. His advice is far-reaching as far as I'm concerned. The first piece of advice he offers is don't compare yourself to others. In a world where Instagram, Facebook, and other social medias make viewing even the most private moments of others lives easily accessible it's hard not to compare yourself to others. However, I see the importance of trying to make yourself your only comparison. If instead of spending energy focusing on other people's lives we spent that energy on our own lives we would be able to make progress more quickly and more concisely. Another tip he gave that stood out to me is to set goals that are within your control. When goals are se...

Topic Brainstorm for Semester Project

Image Credit. Belle Sita by Ye-Zu. Taken August 2016. Source: Flickr .  Women of the Ramayana  is a topic that caught my eye first. As I've mentioned in other blog posts women are not very often the main characters or heroes of stories. I would like to learn more about the women in the Ramayana and potentially write some of their stories in my storybook. Sita is a Hindu goddess I have read about briefly in one of the older storybooks that interested me. I would like to learn more about her story particularly. I think it would also be interesting to learn about the women who were good and bad in the Ramayana. I have no previous knowledge of these stories so this topic would give me a blank slate with lots of opportunity for learning.  Epic Heroes  is the second topic that I might write about. I love superhero stories such as Superman, Thor, and Batman. I think that epic hero stories might just be the Indian epics version of these stories. I think it would b...

Week 2 Story: Fairy City

Image
Image Credit. Fairies by Terretta. Taken September 2008. Source: Flickr . Once upon a time, there was a city, Anfairem, where faires ruled with great might. All the faires were females and if any males, human or fairy, ventured into Anfairem they were not alive long. The women fairies would have the men complete work or chores but would tire of them quickly afterward and kill them.  There was a huge airplane flying across the sky directly over Anfairem. The fairies used their powers and found out that there were male humans and fairies in the aircraft. The female fairies shot down the plane, but at the last minute used their powers to bring it safely to the ground. The men in the plane thought that a wind storm had knocked their plane out of the sky and were very thankful to the women for saving them. The women of Anfairem were very inviting to the men and made them a huge meal for celebration. The men were convinced that they should stay in Anfairem with the good women ...

Reading Notes: Jataka Anthology

Image Credit. The demon city of Lanka . The Flying Horse by W. Robinson .       The first story I read that really caught my attention was The Foolish, Timid Rabbit. This story reminded me of a classic story that was very familiar. I liked the character of the Lion the best of course. He is the voice of reason in this story and also the king. The way that the author made the Lion the voice of reason and the leader was something that stood out to me immensely. I like that the leader of these animals was strong and wise. I did not like at the end when the Lion kind of made fun of the Rabbit after he had learned what really happened. He should have been kinder to the Rabbit instead of calling him foolish in front of everyone.      The second story that I thought was noteworthy was The Crocodile and the Monkey's Heart. I liked the action in this story. The crocodile formed a very smart plan in order to get the Monkey's heart for his mischevious wife. ...

Week 2 Reading Overview

Image
Family Portrait of Lord Shiva taken by Nithi Anand. January 2016. Source: Flickr .  Personally, I am choosing to read the Public Domain Edition: Ramayana. This version is free which has appeal to me because I like to save all the money that I can. Also, there is an audio option that comes along with the Public Domain Edition. I really like this feature because I can get the readings done while driving or working out. I also like that there are various authors and writing styles. If I am not interested in one style I have no reason to worry because other styles are used in this option. A couple of the comics I am interested in are  The Gita: The Song of Eternal Wisdom  and  Shiva Parvati . The Gita interested me because of the story plot surrounding the rulers on the throne. I enjoy stories of rulers and their conquests and struggles. The other comic Shiva Parvati interested me because it seemed to be a love story with a few twists and turns. I am a...

Time Strategies

Image
Motivation, Time Management, Inspiration by Chris Florence. Taken July 2012 Source: Flickr . Time management is something that I struggled with during my Freshman year here at OU. Throughout my three years, I have developed a few strategies for managing my time that have really worked for me. I make checklists, have a planner, and use reminders on my phone to make sure that I keep deadlines on my mind and do not forget. The first article I read was  The Psychology of Checklists  by Lauren Marchese. I really liked this article and it confirmed that one of the time management strategies I have been using works. The second article was  3 Steps to Recapture Time   by Joynicole Martinez. This blog gave me a few things to try. I think that if I spent the first 15 minutes of my day planning I would be more productive. The third article I read was  Realistic Study Plans  by Amanda Collins. This article gave me a few resources I plan to use. The weekly templa...

Technology Overview

Technology by Global Panorama. Image Courtesy: Nick Harris. Source: Flickr .   Technology is constantly changing and evolving. Having knowledge or learning about new technologies is always beneficial. I have experience blogging, bookmarking, and image editing. I do not have experience with website publishing, graphics creation, or Twine. I am excited to learn about website publishing the most. I am also looking forward to creating my storybook website. This class is unlike most of my other classes though I do have some experience from blogging in other classes. I like that the setup of this class allows us to be creative. I also enjoy writing so I'm sure I'll continue to have fun writing my blogs.
