Week 2 Story: Fairy City

Once upon a time, there was a city, Anfairem, where faires ruled with great might. All the faires were females and if any males, human or fairy, ventured into Anfairem they were not alive long. The women fairies would have the men complete work or chores but would tire of them quickly afterward and kill them.

There was a huge airplane flying across the sky directly over Anfairem. The fairies used their powers and found out that there were male humans and fairies in the aircraft. The female fairies shot down the plane, but at the last minute used their powers to bring it safely to the ground. The men in the plane thought that a wind storm had knocked their plane out of the sky and were very thankful to the women for saving them. The women of Anfairem were very inviting to the men and made them a huge meal for celebration. The men were convinced that they should stay in Anfairem with the good women fairies.

One woman, Likaly, was very fond of one of the men named Kimber. She did not want to see these men meet their demise because she had fallen in love with him. She knew a goblin, named Grogo, who lived very close to the fairies city. She ran to Grogo's house and begged for him to bring his black pegasus and rescue the men and male fairies. Grogo seeing Likaly's despair had his black pegasus fly to the city in the darkest hours of the night. Kimber told all of the men and male fairies that they needed to escape if they wanted to live. They all knew of Likaly's love for him and trusted that she had given him true information. They fled quickly escaping only because Grogo's pegasus was able to evade the magic of the fairies of Anfairem.

Author's Note: I took the traditional story of Goblin City and made it into a completely new story where fairies were the villains and a goblin was the hero. I wanted to switch the roles because I feel like fairies are more commonly known as the good guys and wanted a change of pace. I also added an actual love story in because I enjoy love stories. I thought that the idea of love being the reason the men escaped was more poetic.

  1. This is awesome! I love it when people take traditional tropes and story constructs and turn them on their heads. Flipping the script, making the villains the fairies and the heroes the goblins is such a refreshing take on this fantasy archetypes. I like though how you made one of the fairies, Lakaly, think for herself and go against the grain of her brethren. The name of the city, Anfairem, did you create that yourself?

  2. Hey Hannah, I enjoyed reading your story! As I was reading through it, it reminded me of a story we had to read in one of the past assignments, so good job on making it recognizable! I liked how you changed up the story to what you enjoy reading as well. I agree with your opinion on fairies and how they are seem as good.
